The CM Network has held two thematic workshops to help participants to understand "where they are at" in terms of CM, what progress they are making and what can they do to improve and solve the specific problems they face. The themes of each of the workshops were identified by the participants in the network and held in or near one of the participating sites. A third thematic workshop is due to be held on Sibuyan Island, Philippines in October 2007. In addition there will be a final lessons learned/evaluation workshop towards the end of Phase 1 of the project (June 2008).
The First Regional workshop
The first workshop on Indigenous Peoples and Protected Areas: a Collaborative Management Learning Network in South East Asia was held at Crocker Range Park Headquarters from March 10 to 14, 2006, near Keningau, Sabah, Malaysia. The local hosts were PACOS Trust and Sabah Parks. Read the Report
The Second Regional Workshop
The second Regional Workshop on Indigenous Peoples and Protected Areas: a Collaborative Management Learning Network in South East Asia was held at Yen Bai Province, Vietnam from 11-17 Dec, 2006. Read the Report
Community Consultation workshops
These in-country workshops are designed to be held regularly with the local indigenous community in each of the sites to ensure their full support and understanding. These workshops allow discussions in the community's own language, preferred setting and location, and focus on issues of primary concern to them.
Community feedback and multi-stakeholder feedback workshop
In order to maintain full transparency and involvement of all stakeholders involved in the sites, feedback workshops are normally organized after each regional workshop. These include community workshops (as above), and a multi-stakeholder workshop to ensure information flow to and from other stakeholders.
Exchange Visits
The first study tour was made between Vietnam and Philippines from 19-26 October 2006. Other exchanges have recently occurred between the sites in Laos and Cambodia (both ways) and an exchange visit between the Malaysia and Indonesia sites is being planned.
Participatory Action Research
Each of the 7 CM Learning Network sites are undergoing Participatory Action Research (PAR) activities over the course of the 2 year project. These are designed to address specific needs related to CM identified by each of the sites. All the parties involved in the particular site i.e. indigenous organisation(s), local government, NGOs and PA managers, and the CMLN country coordinators work together in the conduct of the PAR.

The project is documenting and distilling lessons learned through close follow up with the participating sites. These articulated accounts of experiences, practices and lessons learned are being diffused among a wider pool of relevant recipients in the region.
|
The project is enhancing the capacities of key actors involved in the participating sites through support to match the needs identified in an on-going way.
